RTO - DRYDEN - DISTRICT 35

| Executive || Agenda || Minutes || Newsletter |

The Dryden District of the Retired Teachers of Ontario, consists of the many communities associated with Dryden, including Red Lake, Ear Falls, Vermilion Bay, Eagle River, Sioux Lookout, Wabigoon and Ignace.

Visitors to our district encounter a variety of geographical and physical features, including forests, lakes and farmland, as they travel through the region, along highways 17, 605 and 71.

The city of Dryden is the largest community in District 35 and the majority of our RTO/ERO members live in the city. The remaining members live in the smaller communities of Red Lake, Ear Falls, Vermilion Bay, Eagle River, Sioux Lookout, Wabigoon and Ignace, AND outside of those communities in the rural areas spread out among them. Camps and tourist resorts are part of the face of District 35 and tourism plays a huge roll in our region, with many of our members playing a part in that important aspect of our economy.

Our district's economy depends on the forestry industry, tourism and some agriculture. Weyerheuser has a large paper mill in Dryden, there are agricultural activities all around the area, tourist camps cater to fishing and hunting in and around all of the district's communities and a MNR Regional fire center is located in the district, located just outside Dryden beside the Dryden Municipal Airport. Services, such as medical, education, and government agencies for the district, are centered in Dryden. A large Ministry of Natural Resources Operation is central to Dryden, with smaller offices in the other communities.

RTO/ERO functions are well attended by our very active membership.

The members of District 35 are very proud that Brian Kenney has been elected as RTO Provincial First Vice President.
